BASIC BASIC BASIC French Bread…

July 9, 2011

Here we are… the first recipe.. I am taking a break while it rises.
This is a small 1 pound loaf, just in case it is an unmitigated disaster or something!

Water – (85 degrees) 1 cup + 1 tablespoon
Salt (Redmond Brand “real salt”) 3/4 teaspoon
Bread flour (Gold Medal Brand “Better for Bread”) 2 cups + 6 tablespoons
1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) Red Star brand Active dry yeast

super super simple recipe… AND I should add… before someone decides that I’m doing HARD work, that I am using a Cuisinart bread machine. All ingredients (in order) into machine… selecting French/Italian loaf setting, light crust, and GO!

The total kneading, rising and baking time is 3 hours and 15 minutes! No WAY could I manage to fit that much ACTUAL time into my schedule…
